My paternal grandfather’s roots were in Scotland. He passed over to the next world when I was 4 years old. Over the years I have often felt his presence, which I am very grateful for. I want this painting to embody the Divine energy and beauty of the Scottish highlands.

The Highland regions of the world are vast. The animals that live in these regions can roam huge distances if they wish to. It’s lovely to think about the freedom they have in their natural domain. I imagine the sights and the sounds they experience are very beautiful.

All the forms that spirit embodies appear within the eternal presence. It is this presence I wish to portray when I paint the natural world. I spent years seeking the Supreme Being, then I realised there is nothing else. It is here now, everywhere, the All in All.

I feel very fortunate to paint. There is so much beauty in this world and painting is a wonderful way for me to appreciate and respect the incredible artistry of the creator.

Years ago I lived very near to an ancient woodland in Norwich called Mousehold woods. I loved spending time there and would go there during the day to enjoy the magic of the woods and late in the evening to enjoy the starry night. I loved the peace and serenity and the sounds of the woods.

In this lifetime i have spent many hours sitting quietly and enjoying the peace and tranquility of woodlands. I am very grateful for the healing and harmonising vibrations of the natural world and I have benefitted so much from the beautiful beings that inhabit these places.

Patience and commitment are so important in art. This painting requires a lot of both. The more my patience and commitment has grown through the years with my art, the more my patience and commitment have grown in life generally. For this I am truly grateful. I love noticing the beauty of life’s countless forms, and taking my time to enjoy the experience of putting these feelings of wonder and gratitude into my art. It’s my way of saying thankyou to the Divine for the creation of this awesome multiverse in which we are connecting, sharing, learning and growing.
